Merry Christmas!

It can be a challenge having a bunch of kids.  It can be tiring, expensive and stressful at times…

But boy, it sure is fun on Christmas morning!

Merry Christmas to all ~ from our family to yours!

Congratulations, Fat Boy!

While looking at my blog stats, I noticed that Fat Boy was my 100th post. So congratulations Fat Boy!  For this honor, we will hang a bunch of stuff all over you, occasionally remember to water you, try to keep the kids and cats off of you, and when Christmas is over, we’ll strip you bare and dump you at Home Depot.  Doesn’t seem right does it?

How ’bout we  post a picture of you in all your splendor?  That seems more fitting. Continue reading

Fat Boy comes home

Before you go thinking I am speaking rudely about another person, please read on. Tonight we went to get our Christmas tree. As long as I can remember, we have had a live tree. I’ll have to ask my mom if we’ve ever had anything else, but I don’t think so. So every year, we still go pick out a tree, haul it home, string lights on it and decorate it. Stringing lights is one of my least favorite things in the world, but I also won’t let anyone else do it, so it’s my own fault that I have to. Actually, I would let my mom do it, but so far I haven’t been able to talk her into it. Continue reading

Child Labor (with love)

Every Christmas season, I come up with some to-do lists of extra chores for the kids with dollar amounts assigned to them.  They use the money they earn to buy Christmas gifts. The lists usually include those things I would like to get done, but will not have time to do before Christmas.  Past lists have had such things as organizing the movies (not one is ever in the right case), cleaning out the van, wrapping gifts, yard work and helping clean younger siblings rooms. This year I have come up with a new one for my oldest. Continue reading

She’s Here!

We made it through shopping, wrapping & performances.  We made through Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. We even made it through Christmas at my mom’s the day after.  However, at about 4:45am on Bill’s birthday (the 27th), labor pains started and did not go away.  We got to the hospital around 7 and at 1:14pm, Baby Girl Edger was born, weighing 10 lbs. 1 oz and measuring 21 inches long.  I say Baby Girl because Bill decided to tell me in the labor room that our original name had not ever really grown on him.  Great timing on his part 🙂 I  guess that I would rather have known then instead of finding out later when it was too late.  I think maybe he felt like he had some extra pull since it was his birthday.

We were blessed with an uncomplicated delivery – although it was no picnic pushing out a 10 pound baby!  At that point, though, I was so happy to be able to push that I didn’t care.  Because of her size, her blood sugar had to be tested for 12 hours – but all of those came back normal.  We should have named her Sugar, because that seemed to be a running theme during the pregnancy.  I know it was that last week of Christmas yummies that put her over the 10 spot.  She had her first BM that evening – all of you who have ever had to wait for your baby to have a BM to be discharged will understand the importance of this 🙂  The next morning, the mid-wife, the pediatrician and the picture-taker came by in a very timely manner.  The nurse had all our papers ready for discharge after 1:15.  The only thing we were waiting on was a name!  We needed to fill out the birth certificate form and Baby Girl was not going to do.  So after several possibilities were discussed, we decided on a name we had considered for Dayleigh.  We kept our original middle name (thankfully)  and filled out her form…

So welcome to the world, Sadie Faith Edger.  We’re so happy that you’re here!

Christmas Kittens

If you are looking for THE gift for your kids or know someone who is, we’ve got them and they’re free.  They are  very kid-tolerant, litter trained, and lots of fun.  They are three months old now, so they’re more like teen kits, but still pass for kittens.  We have four – three girls and a boy.  I will post a picture if I can, but you are welcome to come see them in person.  In fact I recommend it!

If you take one, or refer someone who does, I have a basement full of new Southern Living at HOME stuff that you (and they) can pick from 🙂  Bribery is not beneath me at this point.  We will have to take them somewhere after Christmas, and since we’ve gotten to know them so well, we would rather them go where we know they will get a good home.
